The historic Village of Thornhill is a suburban neighborhood located on the northern border of Toronto. Thornhill's growth since the 1960s and 1970s has been largely due to its location bordering Toronto. Thornhill is a community and postal designation split geographically into two municipalities between the cities of Vaughan and Markham.

Thornhill's quiet tree–lined streets and charming village ambiance blends 18th century architecture, heritage and culture with the services and conveniences of vibrant urban living and has become a diverse hub of activity with its approximate 49,000 residents.

Thornhill was founded in 1794,and its name stems from Benjamin Thorne, who arrived in 1820 and operated a sawmill, a gristmill, and a tannery. The settlement came to be known as Thorne's Mills, later Thorne's Hill, and eventually Thornhill.

The business district developed and stagecoaches traveled along improved stonework roads. Thornhill's location along a major transportation route proved beneficial to the community's growth through the twentieth century. An electric street railway in 1898, and later the automobile, made it possible for people to reside in Thornhill and work in Toronto.

Martin House Store and Museum. You will view an outstanding and unique collection of vintage handmade character, ethnic and storybook dolls from the 19th and 20th centuries, including many antiques, as well as teddy bears and toys. The Neo-Classical frame house was built by carpenter John Martin who, over 50 years, designed and erected a number of houses, the best known being the house that bears his name, which was built around 1845.

38th Thornhill Village Festival. This is an annual event that will be held on Saturday, September 20, 2014, from 9:00 a.m .to 4:30 p.m. The Festival will feature historical battle re-enactments, music and entertainment, more than 100 booths, a variety of food, a beer garden, rides and events for kids and teens, and more.
